Set up and use offline editing in Canva

Edit your Canva designs without an internet connection. Work offline, then sync your changes when you're back online.

Get started with offline editing

Before you start working offline, you'll need to set things up while you're online.

Supported devices

  • Chrome, Edge, or Safari (desktop browsers)
  • Firefox (versions above 152)
  • Canva desktop app
  • Android app
  • Mobile browsers

Not supported:

  • iOS and iPad apps
  • Firefox (versions 149, 150, and 151 )
  • Private or incognito mode

Before you go offline

Make sure you understand these key limits before working offline:

  • You must make your designs available offline first.
  • Designs enabled for offline are available on the device only, and won’t be available on other devices.
  • You can only edit existing designs (no new designs offline)
  • Some features won’t work without internet.
  • Your changes are saved locally on your device.
  • You can work offline for up to 14 days.
  • Don’t sign out while online, this removes offline designs.
  • Avoid adding video or audio while offline, as this may cause broken media or prevent your changes from saving when you reconnect.

Make designs available offline

Before going offline, make your designs available offline while connected to the internet. You can choose designs from your Home, Recents, Projects, or from the editor.

  1. Go to your Homepage, Recents, or Projects, then select Available offline.
  2. Find the design you want to access offline.
  3. Select
More on the design preview, then select Make available offline.
  4. Wait for the download to complete.

A progress indicator shows when your design is being prepared. You’ll see a confirmation message when your design is ready to use offline.

Tip: You can find all offline designs in Available offline on your Homepage, or at canva.com/offline-designs.

Enable offline designs from the editor

You'll see a brief message when your design is ready to use offline.

Tip: You can find all offline-enabled designs in Available offline on your homepage, or at canva.com/offline-designs.

  1. Go to canva.com, or open the Canva desktop app.
  2. Go to Projects, then select Available offline.
  3. Open a design to start editing.

Your changes are saved locally on your device.

You can upload images while editing offline. If your design contains videos, they’ll appear as a static image and won’t play until you reconnect.

For a full list of what you can and can’t do while offline, see the sections below:

What you can do while offline

Offline Photo Editing isn't available for everyone just yet. We're working on it and we'll get it to you soon!

You can continue working on your design with most editing tools, including:

  • Edit text (fonts, size, alignment, formatting)
  • Move, resize, and adjust elements already in your design
  • Change colours and layouts
  • Add new pages based on existing layouts or custom sizes
  • Use basic photo editing and filters
  • Draw and annotate
  • Copy and paste within your design
  • Use shapes, lines, grids, tables, frames, and charts
  • Upload and use images from your device (JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, WebP, SVG, GIF)
  • Animate elements (apply animations to elements)
  • Layers panel (view and reorder layers)

Avoid uploading video or audio while offline, as this may cause broken media or prevent your changes from saving when you reconnect.

Upload images while offline

You can upload images from your device while working offline.

  • Upload from the Uploads tab in the editor
  • Each image must be under 50 MB
  • Images are saved to your design while offline

When you reconnect, uploaded images are automatically saved to your Uploads folder so you can use them in other designs.

Uploading from the homepage requires an internet connection.

What needs internet

These features require an internet connection:

  • Templates and elements from Canva’s library
  • Sharing, comments, and real-time collaboration
  • Upload audio or video files
  • AI features (Magic Write, Background Remover, etc.)
  • Brand Kit elements and new uploads
  • Video editing and animations
  • Embedded content (like YouTube)
  • Downloading or exporting designs
  • Creating new designs from scratch

Videos and embedded content will appear as a static preview while offline and will load again when you reconnect.

Save your changes

Your changes are saved locally on your device and sync automatically when you reconnect. When you go back online:

  • Stay connected until you see All changes synced
  • Keep Canva open during syncing

Don’t sign out, close, or refresh while offline. This can remove offline designs before they sync.

Important: Try not to sign out, close, or refresh while offline, as this can remove offline designs before they sync.

Manage offline storage

You can remove offline designs to free up space on your device.

  • We recommend keeping at least 2GB of free space

Remove individual designs

  1. Go to canva.com/offline-designs.
  2. Select ⋯ More on the design you want to remove.
  3. Select Remove offline availability.

Remove all offline designs

  1. Go to Settings from your profile menu.
  2. Select Data and storage, then select Offline.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Remove offline designs - removes all offline designs from your device.
    • Delete all offline data - removes all offline designs and content from your device. It also removes other files Canva saves to help offline features work.

Removing offline access doesn't delete your designs, they'll still be saved to your Canva account online.

Set up offline design permissions

Canva Enterprise, Canva for Districts, and Canva for Campus administrators can set the permission for offline presenting. By default, the feature is set to Everyone.

To change offline design permissions:

  1. From the homepage, go to
    Settings.

  3. From the Offline section > Who can use offline designs, select Admins only or Everyone.
