Troubleshoot Cloudflare security challenges on Canva

When you open Canva, you may see a security challenge page before you can continue. Cloudflare, a security service that protects Canva from automated threats, triggers this when it detects unusual traffic patterns. Complete the challenge to access Canva.

If you're repeatedly seeing this challenge, something in your browser, device, or network is likely causing it.

Why you're seeing this

Cloudflare shows a security check when it detects unusual traffic. Common causes include:

  • Browser extensions that change or monitor your web traffic
  • Security software with anti-tracking or browser fingerprint-protection features
  • Virtual private network (VPN) software that routes or inspects your browser traffic
  • Company or school network configurations, especially on managed devices
  • Many devices sharing a single internet connection

Resolve frequent challenges

Try these steps if you're repeatedly seeing the security challenge:

  1. If you're using a personal device, check your antivirus software, VPN, browser extensions, or other security/privacy tools for anti-tracking or anti-fingerprinting features. These can sometimes trigger Cloudflare security challenges. Temporarily disable them or add *.canva.com to the allowed sites list in your security or privacy software, to see if it helps.
  2. If you're on a work or school network, contact your IT admin. Ask them to check whether security tools, network settings, or browser extensions are blocking or altering your traffic to Canva.
  3. If you're experiencing challenges often, visit canva.com/edge/pre-clearance. This pre-authorises your browser session with Cloudflare. This may help you avoid errors and get access faster. It will not reduce how often the security challenge appears. Review your security software settings for a longer-term solution (see step 1 or 2).

For IT administrators

If you are seeing security challenges frequently, something is likely interfering with Cloudflare's bot detection. This is typically part of your privacy or security setup.

Check whether any of the following are affecting your connection to Canva:

  • Browser extensions that modify or inspect web traffic
  • Endpoint management software
  • Firewalls and traffic filtering tools
  • Enterprise proxy configurations
  • TLS or SSL inspection tools that intercept and decrypt browser traffic
  • Corporate VPN configurations where Canva traffic passes through a security inspection layer.

Temporarily disable these to identify the cause, then add an exception for Canva.

If your network uses Network Address Translation (NAT), many devices may appear to share one IP address. Broadening your egress IP pool can reduce how often users see the security challenge.
