Apply Brand Kit colors to your design

Teams can apply approved brand colours to any Canva design, including templates, using Brand Kit. Apply individual colours to elements, use Styles to apply your brand palette across a design, or use colour themes to apply coordinated colours in one step. When a Brand Kit colour is updated, you can update your design to stay on brand.

Key Terms

  • Hex Code: A six-digit code (e.g., #FFFFFF) that represents a specific colour for digital use.
  • Brand Kit: Where your brand assets live, including official logos, fonts, colour palettes, and more.
  • Shuffle: An option when multiple combinations are set up in a colour theme, to easily apply different theme combinations across the entire design.

Apply brand colours to elements

Update individual elements to match your brand guidelines.

  1. Select any element, such as a shape, text box, icon, or background.
  2. Select the Colour tile from the editor toolbar.
  3. Under the
Brand section, choose the approved colour from your organisation's palette.
  4. Repeat this for other elements as needed.

Apply brand colours across a template or design

Use colour themes to quickly apply your brand colours across an entire template.

  1. Open a template or an existing design.
  2. Go to the
    Brand tab and select Colours.
  3. Select
    Apply, then
Shuffle to rotate through different combinations in the theme automatically until you find the best fit (if there is more than one combination in the theme).

Replace colours globally

Quickly replace off-brand colours across your entire design with a single action.

  1. Select an element that uses the colour you want to replace.
  2. Open the Colour tile from the editor toolbar.
  3. Select a replacement colour from your
    Brand Kit palette.
  4. Select Apply to all pages at the bottom of the panel to update every instance of that colour in your design.

Update designs after Brand Kit changes

Refresh older designs when your Brand Kit colours are updated.

  1. Open the existing design you need to update.
  2. Select an element that uses an outdated colour.
  3. Select the Colour tile and choose the updated brand colour.
  4. Select Apply to all pages to replace every instance of the old colour in your design.

Apply colour themes

Colour themes define how colours are applied across backgrounds, elements, and text. When applied, they update these elements together.

Use colour themes to apply your brand colours consistently across your designs.

To apply a theme, select

Shuffle on a theme, then select it again to preview other combinations.

Colour themes apply to backgrounds, text, and SVG graphics. They aren’t available in Canva Docs, Canva Whiteboards, emails, or Canva Sheets.

To create and apply colour themes, see Add and apply colour themes in Brand Kit.

Notes and limitations

  • Permissions: Only admins and brand designers can modify the colours stored in the organisation’s Brand Kit.
  • Locking: You can’t change the colour of an element that’s locked. Select the
    Unlock icon first.
  • Graphic Elements: Some complex graphics or third-party app content may have fixed colours that can’t be updated using the Brand Kit tools.

Troubleshooting

I can’t see my organisation's Brand Kit.

Make sure you’re logged into your Enterprise or Team account. Brand assets aren’t available in personal accounts.

The "Apply to all pages" option isn't appearing.

This only appears when the colour you’re replacing is used in more than one element in your design.

My colours look different after downloading.

If you’re preparing content for physical media, set up CMYK values in your Brand Kit and export the file as a PDF Print.
