Setting up Brand Controls

Brand Controls help keep designs on-brand by limiting how team members use brand assets. Admins can restrict designs to approved colours and fonts, and require design approval before publishing. These settings make sure every design aligns with your brand standards, no matter who’s creating it.

Brand Controls is available to Canva Teams and Canva Business administrators, but not to Education Teams or organisations. These settings are only available on a computer. Make sure to create a Brand Kit first before proceeding.

Restrict colors and fonts, and design approval

  1. From the homepage side panel, select
    Brand.
  2. Select the dropdown beside your
    Brand Kit name.
  3. Go to
    Brand Controls.
  4. Toggle the settings you want to restrict:
    • Colour control: restrict access to only your brand colours.
    • Font control: restrict access to only your brand fonts.
    • Design approval: restrict members from publishing without approval.

Want a group of designs to follow a specific Brand Kit’s colours and fonts? Add Brand Kits to a folder and set up the folder’s Brand Controls.

Enabling design approval

When enabled, team members must submit their designs for approval, giving admins or brand designers a chance to review and provide feedback before anything goes live. Learn how to turn on design approval settings.

The features to add or remove group approvers and set up approval rules for specific members are available to Canva Enterprise only. Learn how to set up design approvals in your organization.

FAQs

How can I use a different Brand Kit in my design?

To use a different Brand Kit, move the design to a folder without Brand Controls enabled. Once moved, you’ll be able to change the Brand Kit from the editor.

If a design is saved in a folder with Brand Controls turned on (for Fonts, Colours, or both), the assigned Brand Kit can’t be changed in the editor. Everyone designing in that folder will use only the approved fonts and colours.

For example, if Colour control is on, only the selected Brand Kit’s colour palette will appear in the editor, and you won’t see the option to switch kits. Learn more about Brand Controls for designs inside a folder.

Do Brand Controls work on mobile?

You can’t set up Brand Controls in the Canva mobile app. But if a design is saved in a controlled folder, the settings still apply when editing on mobile.

How do I manage other team permissions?

To set up permissions for uploading media, sharing designs, or publishing with the Content Planner, see Setting up permissions for your team.
