Create an Organizational Chart in Canva

Learn how to create an organizational chart in Canva Whiteboards and map out roles, reporting lines, and team structure in a clear visual format.

Teams often use org charts to:

• Show reporting lines
• Visualize team structure
• Map relationships between departments
• Support onboarding for new hires
• Plan team changes or restructures

Tip: If you already have an org chart in another tool, you can recreate it in Canva.

Export it as a PDF or SVG, then import it into Canva to keep shapes and text editable.

1. From the homepage, select Whiteboard.

1. Open the Design panel.
2. Search Organizational Chart or Org Chart.
3. Select a layout that matches your team’s structure.
4. Add it to your whiteboard.

1. Replace placeholder names and roles with your team’s details.
2. Drag out shapes to add new team members or departments.
3. Add connectors (lines or arrows) to show reporting lines.
4. Double-click a label to edit the text.
5. Click and drag elements to restructure your chart.

1. Drag images into frames to add team member photos.
2. Use the Elements panel to add icons or annotations.
3. Use color to represent teams, levels, or functions

• Select Share to invite collaborators.
• Set permissions to view, comment, or edit.
• Use comments for feedback or track updates during planning cycles.
• Export as a PNG, PDF, or convert it into a Presentation to share with leadership.

Make sure only the shape is selected before moving.

It was likely uploaded as a PNG or JPG. Re-export from your original tool as a PDF or SVG to keep shapes and text editable.

Use Align and Tidy Up to reset spacing between elements.

Reconnect using lines with endpoints so connectors stay attached when you move shapes.

Upload it as a PDF. PNG or JPG files import as a single image and can’t be edited.
