Use your own domains to publish websites
Add your existing domain to Canva to use it to publish your website.
if you own a domain (e.g., example.com), you have the option to connect a subdomain (e.g., blog.example.com) which is a subsection of your domain or website. This way, you can use and make changes to the main website without affecting the subdomain you connect to Canva.
- This is available to Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva Business, and Canva Education users.
- For Canva Teams, users can publish websites using the custom domain, but only administrators and owners can connect or purchase a domain.
- For Canva Education users, teachers need to approve a website first before a student can publish it. Learn more about approving designs (for teachers) and getting design approval (for students).
If you’ve already added your existing domain to Canva, you can publish your website to it after it’s verified. It can take up to 72 hours for your website to be verified once you connect the domain. See Publishing Canva websites for details.
If your team manages multiple domains, Brand Admins can set a default domain for website publishing. This setting is only visible to Brand Admins and helps reduce accidental publishing to the wrong domain.
The selected domain is automatically chosen when team members publish websites, but they can still select a different domain during the publishing process if needed.
To set a default domain:
- Go to Settings, then select Web Domains
- Under the Default domain section, select the dropdown and select the domain you want to use as the default.
- To remove the default selection, choose None from the dropdown.
Connecting your own domain is available for Website designs only. If you're working from a mobile website or Link in Bio template, your site can only publish to a canva.link address, the custom domain option will not appear. To use your own domain, resize your design to a Website template, or create a new design using a Website template.
Step 1: Add your domain to Canva
- On the upper corner of the editor menu, select Publish Website.
- Select the Get a new domain link.
- In the Use a custom domain window, choose Bring your own domain (Connect your domain from a third party), then select Continue.
- On the text box, enter your domain. Don’t include “www.” If you have an existing website, you can use a subdomain so you won’t have to remove your existing site.
- Select Continue.
Automatically connecting your domain to Canva
If your domain provider supports automatic connection to Canva, a tab with the steps to follow will be opened for you.
Automatically connecting your domain to Canva
If your domain provider supports automatic connection to Canva, a dialog will open to guide you through connecting your DNS provider.
- Select Log in and auto connect.
- A connecting dialog will appear, select Continue.
- Log in with your DNS provider details to allow one-time permission to connect your domain. Instructions may differ depending on your provider.
- Once your domain is successfully connected, select Done, then close the dialog.
- Continue publishing your website in Canva. Go to Step 3.
Manually connecting your domain to Canva
If your domain provider doesn’t support automatic connection to Canva, you need to point your domain to Canva’s servers by updating its DNS settings. This varies between domain hosts. We suggest checking the help articles of your domain host or contacting their support team for help.
For an example of how to do this, see Setting up Website DNS records.
After copying all the records to your domain host’s DNS settings, go back to Canva and click or tap Continue.
Step 3: Publish your website
- This is optional, but we recommend editing your website settings like the URL slug, site description, password protection, etc. See Changing slug, favicon, and more website settings for details.
- Once done, click or tap Publish to finish. This will automatically publish your website after your domain is verified.
Domain verification
Whether your domain was connected automatically or manually, you’ll still need to wait for those settings to update around the world (something called “DNS Propagation”). Once all our servers can see your new settings, we mark your domain as verified and it'll host your website!
In some cases, this can take up to 72 hours. You’ll receive an email once all the records are connected or if they need rechecking.
If your DNS settings still appear pending on your Domain settings page after 72 hours, see Setting up Website DNS records for things you can try. You may need to check the records in your domain host’s settings are correct.
