Add images, videos, and elements to Canva Sheets

Make your data clearer and more engaging by adding images, videos, and elements directly into your sheet. Easily insert visuals to enhance reports, illustrate information, and keep everything organized.

Add images, videos, and elements in Sheets

  1. Select the cell you want to add an image, video, or element to.
  2. On the side panel, select
    Elements or
    Uploads.
  3. Select the image, video, or element you want to insert in the cell.

Preview and file tips

  • Tap or select media inside a cell to preview it in a larger view, so you can check the details without leaving Canva Sheets.
  • Large files can slow things down. For better performance, try uploading a smaller file.
  • Images and videos fit the default cell size. To make them larger, adjust the row or column dimensions.

Inside vs. above the cells

When adding media to Canva Sheets, you can:

  • Insert it inside a cell – The media becomes part of the cell and moves with it.
  • Place it above the cells – The media floats on top of the sheet as a design element.

To drop media inside a cell, hover over it until the drop zone appears, then release. If you don’t see the drop zone, the media will be added above the grid as a floating element.

Detach image, video, or element

You can remove an image, video, or element from a cell without affecting anything else in your Canva Sheet.

Right-click the media, then select Detach from cell.

This clears the media from the cell so you can replace it or leave it empty.

To remove image backgrounds in Canva Sheets, see our guide on using the Background Remover.
