Create videos from images with AI Effects
You can turn a single image into a short video using AI Effects. Choose from ready-made effect templates to bring your photos to life.
Before you start
- AI Effects is available from Templates on the Homepage. It's not available from the editor.
- You can use one image per video.
- AI Effects creates videos in vertical format, ideal for social media.
- Choose from ready-made effect templates. Custom prompts aren't supported.
- AI Effects uses your AI credits. Learn more about tracking your AI allowance.
- For best results, upload a high-resolution image with a clear subject or face.

Create a video with AI Effects
- From the Canva Homepage, go to Templates.
- Look for the Meet AI Video Effects section.
- Select See all to browse AI Effects.
- Hover over an effect to see the preview.
- Select an effect to use it.
- Select Add image.
- Select a single image from your Canva Uploads, or Upload a new one from your device.
- Select Create with AI. The video may take a moment to generate. You can exit while it loads, and a progress bar shows when it's ready.
- Once your video is ready, select Download or Open in editor. Select Generate again if you want a different result.

FAQs
Can I use multiple images to create a video?
You can use one image per video. Select an image from your Canva Uploads, or upload a new one from your device.
Why can't I find AI Effects in the editor?
You can find AI Effects in Templates on the Homepage. After you generate a video, select Open in editor to continue editing.
If you still can't find AI Effects, you might be on an Enterprise subscription. Currently, this feature is not yet available to Enterprise.
Why is my video only in vertical format?
AI Effects creates vertical videos made for social media. If you'd like to create landscape videos using AI, try Magic Media from the editor.
What if my generated video looks different than expected?
AI results can vary. For best results, use a high-resolution image with a clear subject. If the effect is designed for a person and you upload an object, results may differ. Select Generate again to try a different result.
Why can't I generate more AI Effects videos?
You can create up to seven AI Effects videos every 30 minutes. If you reach this limit, wait 30 minutes and try again. If you've reached your monthly AI allowance, it resets at the start of each month.
