Upload multiple files and folders from Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive

You can import entire folders and multiple files from Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive into Canva. This preserves your folder structure and saves you time moving your content into Canva.

You can upload individual files from any of our supported apps including Facebook, Instagram, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and more. Learn more about uploading media from cloud storage or apps.

  1. From the homepage, go to the Projects page.
  2. Select
    Add new.
  3. Select
    Import.
  4. Choose your preferred cloud storage app:
    • Google Drive
    • Dropbox
    • OneDrive
  5. If you haven't connected your account yet, select Connect and follow the prompts:
    • Google Drive: Select your Google account and select Continue
    • Dropbox: Log in and select Allow
    • OneDrive: Log in with your Microsoft account and select Yes
  6. Browse your files and folders.
  7. To select multiple files, select the checkbox next to each file.

Your files will begin importing. You'll see a progress indicator showing how many files are being imported.

Once complete, your files will appear in your Canva folder, organized in the same folder structure as your cloud storage.

Tip: You can close your browser during large imports. Your files continue importing in the background. Check your Projects folder to see progress.

Review import limits

  • Up to 300 items per import
  • Up to 50 folders
  • Up to 10 nested containers
  • File names up to 200 characters
  • File size limits apply (see Upload formats and requirements)

Fix common import issues

I can't see the Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive app

Your team admin may not have enabled the app, or your organization may restrict third-party apps. You might also be using an outdated version of Canva.

  • For team users: Ask your team admin to enable the app in Settings, then Apps
  • Try refreshing your browser or clearing your cache
  • For Enterprise users: Contact your IT administrator to check app permissions

I see an authentication error when connecting

Your session may have expired, you may have denied permissions, or there could be a temporary issue with the storage service.

What to try:

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the app:
    • Go to Apps, search for the app, select ⋯ More, then  Remove from your apps.
    • Reconnect and grant all required permissions.
  2. Make sure you’re signed in to the correct Google, Dropbox, or Microsoft account.
  3. Try again in a different browser or incognito/private mode.

My import is stuck or failed

You may have exceeded import limits, lost connection, or uploaded very large files.

What to try:

  • Check limits: Up to 300 items, 50 folders, and 10 nested folder levels per import. Split into smaller batches if needed.
  • Check your connection: A stable internet connection is required to start the import. Once started, it continues in the background even if you close the tab.Check file size: Ensure files meet Canva’s size limits. Very large files may time out.
  • Wait 5 to 10 minutes and try again, as temporary server issues usually resolve quickly.

Some of my files didn't import

Files may be too large, unsupported, or corrupted.

What to try:

  1. Check for error messages on broken file placeholders. They often explain why the import failed.
  2. Compress or split large files to reduce upload size.
  3. Convert unsupported formats.
  4. Shorten long file names, as overly long names may cause errors.
  5. Try uploading the files that didn’t import one at a time.

My folder structure wasn't preserved

Your folders may go deeper than 10 levels, or you imported files individually instead of from a parent folder.

What to know:

  • If the folder you’re importing goes deeper than 10 levels, the import will fail and show an error message.
  • The depth limit is based on the folder’s position in Canva.
    • For example, if you’re already three folders deep in Canva, you can only import a folder that’s seven levels deep.
  • Reorganize your cloud folders so the selected folder is within the 10-level limit, then import again.

The import is taking a long time

This can happen when importing many files or large files such as videos or high-resolution images.

What to know:

  • Import time depends on the number and size of files.
  • Imports continue in the background.  You can close the browser and check back later.
  • Files appear in your Canva folder as they finish importing.
