Use Ask Canva for AI-powered design edits
Ask Canva lets you get AI-powered assistance directly within your design.
By selecting Ask Canva in the editor toolbar, you can request targeted design edits, generate images, rewrite text, and receive design advice.
Ask Canva only uses your monthly AI allowance when your request uses a premium AI feature. Learn more about AI access in Canva, and track your balance anytime with the AI usage tracker.
Use Ask Canva to edit your design
- Select the element or a page in your design that you want to edit.
- From the editor toolbar, select Ask Canva. This opens Canva AI in the side panel.
- Write down what you’d like the AI to do. For example, “rewrite this paragraph concisely”, “make this element look more realistic”, “generate a new graphic”.
- Your requested edits will automatically apply to your design.
If you selected a page, you can also choose from the contextual prompt suggestions:
- Design this page
- Generate background
- Create a layout
I can't see Ask Canva or Canva AI in the editor
What can cause this
Ask Canva and Canva AI may not be available in the editor for your account.
What to do
- Go back to the Canva homepage.
- From the left side panel, select Canva AI.
- Enter your prompt or request.
If you don't see Canva AI on the homepage, it may not currently be available for your locale.
FAQs
Why can’t I see Ask Canva in the editor toolbar?
If you’re using Canva Free or Canva Education, the main AI entry point in the editor is now Canva AI in the side panel. In this experience, Ask Canva won’t appear in the toolbar. Open Canva AI from the side panel instead to make AI-powered edits.

Why can’t I mention @Canva in the comments anymore?
We've updated how you access our AI assistant. Instead of clicking on an element and commenting on it, you can click Ask Canva to open Canva AI in the side panel and instruct your design requests.
Why did Ask Canva change in appearance?
We’ve updated the Ask Canva entry point in the editor. The icon that used to appear with Ask Canva has been removed. The feature still works the same—click Ask Canva in the editor toolbar to open Canva AI and enter your request.
