Edit and manage video caption in Canva
These caption editing features apply only to AI-generated captions and don't apply to captions created through Accessibility tools.
Note: Captions for audio files are available in the video timeline and aren’t available in page view.
Edit and adjust in-line captions
Editable Captions appear as a dedicated timeline layer so you can edit text and adjust timing within the video timeline view without losing alignment.
- Select the caption segment you want to edit, then type in your edits.
- You can also go to Captions from the toolbar to open the Captions panel.
- In the Captions panel, select the caption line you want to update, then type your change
- To adjust timing, select a caption segment, then drag the start and end edges of the segment to adjust how long it appears on screen.
Delete captions
Delete specific captions
If you've added multiple videos and want to delete only some captions:
- Select the caption that you want to delete.
- On the floating toolbar, select Delete.
Delete all captions
To remove captions from all added videos:
- Select any caption in your design.
- On the floating toolbar, click Captions to open the Captions panel.
- Select Delete all captions.
Delete in-line captions
To remove specific lines from your video's captions:
- Select the caption of the video where you want to delete lines.
- On the floating toolbar, click Captions to open the Captions panel.
- In the Captions tab, hover over the line you want to delete.
- Click the Delete icon.
Move captions
- Select the caption of the video that you want to move.
- Drag the caption to your preferred position.
Repeat the steps for every page where you want to adjust the caption placement.
I can’t edit my captions
What can cause this
The captions may have been created using Accessibility tools instead of Captions.
What to do
- Select the caption in your timeline.
- Check whether editing options appear in the toolbar or Captions panel.
- If editing isn’t available, confirm whether the captions were added using Accessibility tools.
My captions are out of sync after editing
What can cause this
The caption timing may not match the spoken audio after trimming or adjusting segments.
What to do
- Play your video in the editor.
- Select the caption segment that appears out of sync.
- Drag the start or end edge to better match the spoken audio.
- Preview again to confirm alignment.
