Import HTMLs

You can import HTML files into Canva and turn them into editable designs. This lets you repurpose web content, email templates, or other HTML documents without starting from scratch.

Import HTML

Import HTML from the homepage

  • Drag and drop your HTML to the homepage.
  • On the homepage banner, click
Uploads. Select Upload files or drag and drop your file.
  • On the side menu of the homepage, click
    Projects.  Click the
plus button, then select Upload files.

Your HTML file opens as a new editable design.

Import HTML from the editor

  • Drag and drop your HTML to the editor.
  • On the top corner of the editor, click on File, then click
    Upload a file.
  • On the editor side panel, click on the
Uploads tab, then click on Upload files. Select the files you want to upload, or drag and drop them in the Uploads tab.

Import Claude Design presentations

When you import HTML presentations created in Claude Design, Canva automatically converts them into fully editable Canva Presentations. This gives you access to all presentation features, including multiple slides, presenter view, and full editing tools.

To import your Claude Design presentations to Canva:

  1. On Claude Design, select Share.
  2. Select Send to Canva. Claude Design generates a link for you to open the presentation in Canva.

You can also export your slide deck presentation from Claude Design as an HTML file, then import the file using any of the methods in the Import HTML section of this article.

Note: This feature only works with Claude Design slide deck presentations. Other HTML files import as Code designs.

If your presentation imports as a Code design

If Canva doesn't detect your file as a Claude Design presentation, it imports as a Code design instead. This can happen if:

  • The HTML file isn't from Claude Design.
  • The HTML file isn't a slide deck presentation type.
  • There's an error during the conversion process.

Code designs let you view and make basic edits to the HTML content, but don't include full presentation features.

What to expect

When you import an HTML file, Canva converts it into editable elements. Here's what happens:

  • Text becomes editable text boxes you can modify.
  • Images are placed as separate elements you can move or replace.
  • Layout is preserved as closely as possible to the original design.
  • Links may not be preserved in the imported design

Limitations

Consider the following when importing HTML files:

  • Complex CSS styling may not convert exactly as displayed in browsers.
  • JavaScript functionality isn't supported in imported designs.
  • External resources (fonts, images hosted elsewhere) may not import.
  • Very large HTML files may take longer to process.
