Pay with Capitec Pay
If you bank with Capitec in South Africa, you can use Capitec Pay in Canva for fast one-time checkouts or pay for Canva subscriptions using Capitec Pay Recurring. You'll approve each payment in the Capitec Pay app on your phone.
What you can use Capitec Pay for
One-time payments
Use Capitec Pay to make single purchases on Canva, such as:
- Purchasing a Pro element.
- Purchasing a print product.
- Other one-time purchases.
Recurring payments (subscriptions)
Use Capitec Pay Recurring to pay for:
- Canva Pro subscriptions
- Canva Teams subscriptions
- Free trial sign-ups
- Other recurring charges
Complete a purchase with Capitec Pay
- Add the item you want to purchase to your cart.
- Go to checkout.
- Select Capitec Pay as your payment method.
- Enter your name, email address, and phone number.
- Select Continue.
- Open the Capitec Pay app on your mobile device.
- Approve the payment when prompted.
If app notifications are on, you'll get a message on your phone to approve the payment. You can also open the app directly to check for payments waiting for your approval.
Pay with Capitec Pay Recurring (subscriptions)
- During subscription checkout (or when you change your payment method), select Capitec Pay as your payment method.
- Enter your name, email address, and phone number.
- Open your Capitec app on your phone to authorise the initial payment. You will also receive a push notification if notifications are enabled.
- Once you authorise the payment, your subscription is set up. Future recurring payments are processed automatically. You do not need to authorise each renewal.

Automatic renewals | After you authorize the initial subscription payment, future renewals are charged automatically. You don't need to open the Capitec app for each billing cycle. |
Failed payments | If a recurring payment fails, it will be retried automatically. |
Changing payment methods | You can switch to or from Capitec Pay Recurring at any time from your account's billing settings. |
Cancellation | To stop recurring payments, cancel your Canva subscription. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. |

Can I use Capitec Pay for both one-time and subscription payments?
Yes. Capitec Pay supports one-time purchases, and Capitec Pay Recurring supports subscription and recurring payments. Both options appear as "Capitec Pay" at checkout, and the correct version is shown based on the type of purchase you're making.
Do I need the Capitec app to use this payment method?
Yes. You'll need the Capitec app installed on your phone to authorise payments. Make sure push notifications are enabled so you receive the authorisation prompt.
Will I be charged automatically for my subscription?
Yes. After you authorise the initial payment via the Capitec app, all subsequent subscription renewals are processed automatically.
What happens if my recurring payment fails?
Failed recurring payments are retried automatically. If the retry is unsuccessful, you may need to update your payment method to avoid service interruption.
