Sort and freeze data in Canva Sheets

Sort and freeze data in your Canva Sheets so you can stay focused while working with tables, lists, or timelines.

Sort Data

Sorting lets you organize information in ascending (A–Z) or descending (Z–A) order. To sort a column:

  1. In the floating toolbar, select Sort
  2. On a column, select the funnel icon.
  3. Select
    Sort ascending or
    Sort descending.

You can also sort data by right-clicking on a column and selecting

Sort A-Z or
Sort A-Z.

Freeze rows and columns

Freezing keeps specific rows or columns in view while you scroll through your sheet. It’s useful for keeping headers or important data visible.

Freeze columns

  1. Right-click the column you want to freeze up to.
  2. Select Freeze up to column (your selected column).

Freeze rows

  1. Select the rows you want to freeze up to.
  2. Right-click on the selected rows, and select Freeze up to row (your selected row/s).

Unfreeze rows or columns

  1. Right-click any cell.
  2. Select Freeze, then choose Unfreeze row or Unfreeze column.

Freezing rows or columns won’t affect any filters or sorting you've applied.

FAQs

Can I sort multiple columns at once?

No, sorting applies to one column at a time. For multi-column sorting, apply sorts sequentially starting with the secondary column.

Can I undo sorting or freezing?

Yes! Use Undo (Ctrl + Z / Cmd + Z) to reverse your last action.

Will freezing remove my filters or sorts?

No, freezing just locks rows or columns in place — your filters and sorts remain active.

What happens when I download my Sheet?

Your current sorting and frozen view will be preserved in the downloaded version.
