Editor is locked and not saving
If you can’t save your design and the editor is locked, this usually means there’s a technical issue relating to your browser or internet settings.
The Canva Editor needs WebSockets so your design can save while you and your team are working on it at the same time. WebSockets are used to send messages between your browser and the server.
When your web browser or internet connection settings (e.g. proxies, firewalls, VPNs, etc.) block WebSockets, you might see these messages on the editor:
- “We’ve locked the editor because we couldn’t save your changes.”
- Saving status is stuck to: Connecting…
My editor is locked and I can't save new changes
What can cause this
This may be because of the browser you're using or because your internet connection is not stable.
What to do
- Refresh the page or open the design in another tab.
- Use Canva on a different browser and go to incognito or private mode.
- Turn off browser extensions that might be affecting Canva.
- Temporarily turn off your antivirus, Firewall software, proxy, or VPN connections on your device.
Testing for issues with WebSockets
You can check whether or not WebSockets are working correctly using the test below:
If you see any errors from the test above, contact your IT or network administrator. Ask them to allow WebSocket connections to this host: www.canva.com:443.
WebSocket issue solutions
You can also try the following steps to try and fix the issue.
- Use Canva on a different browser and use the incognito or private mode. Learn more about our supported browsers on Technical requirements.
- Disable your browser extensions one by one, from your browser settings, and then try Canva again. You may be able to find out which browser extension may be causing the issue.
- Temporarily turn off all antivirus or Firewall software on your device. You can also try using Canva on a device without this software (e.g. smartphone or tablet browser). If the error is solved, the antivirus or Firewall installed may be the cause. If you still get the error, it may be caused by proxy or VPN connections.
