Why have I been charged?

AI Summary

If you received a charge from Canva and you’re not sure what it’s for, we’re here to help.

Find and understand an unfamiliar charge from Canva

If there are Canva charges on your credit card or PayPal account that you don’t recognise, use our Charge Finder below.

If you see a small extra charge that doesn’t match a Canva purchase or looks like a separate fee, it may be a fee from your bank or card issuer (for example, foreign transaction or processing fees). If you’re unsure, check with your bank first.

Quick tip

Received an unfamiliar Canva payment? Look it up to learn what it's for.

For purchases made through App Store (iOS) or Google Play check your purchase history or refer to this article to help identify unfamiliar Canva charges.

Common reasons for unrecognised charges

Here are some common reasons for charges that might not look familiar and how to manage them.

You have more than one Canva account, Canva Teams, or Canva Business account

If you used different emails or third-party accounts (e.g. Google, Facebook), you may have multiple accounts. Check each account to see if the charge is for any of them. Teams have separate billing. If you don't see the charge in your invoices, it might be for another team. Found the account but don’t remember your password? Reset your password.

Your free trial ended

Canva plans renew automatically. If you don't cancel before your trial ends, you'll be charged for the renewal.

To cancel your plan, see Cancel a Canva plan.

Please note that if you started a Canva trial without providing payment details, your trial will end automatically and you won't be charged.

Your charge shows up earlier than expected

Canva fees follow GMT time. We also charge you a day before your billing date. So if you’re on a monthly plan and your billing date is on the 31st, you’ll be charged on the 30th (and on the 28th in February).

You were charged a credit card authentication

A credit card authentication charge (sometimes called pre-authorisation) is a small temporary charge, usually around $1 or the local currency equivalent, that appears when you add or update your card. It isn’t an actual payment — it’s placed by our payment processor and your bank to verify that the card is valid and can process transactions securely. The charge is automatically reversed once the card is confirmed, and the funds are released back to you within 7–10 banking days (timing may vary by bank). If it hasn’t cleared after this period, please contact us for help.

You received excess refunds (Brazil)

If you paid for a yearly Canva plan in monthly instalments and received a refund, your bank might have refunded the yearly plan amount in full. This could mean that what you received is more than the actual amount that needs to be refunded. To correct this, your bank (not Canva) continues to charge you for the remaining instalments. We recommend contacting your bank for more details. You can also learn how refunds work if you pay in instalments for a yearly plan.

You may have switched from Canva Pro to Canva Business

Inviting someone to your team while on Canva Pro will change your plan to Canva Business. Your billing will then align with the Canva Business pricing.

You were charged by Canva when you bought Affinity

To use premium features in Affinity, you’ll need a paid Canva subscription. Your payment shows as Canva on your statement because your subscription is managed through Canva.

Someone on your team may have used your payment method

As a team owner or admin, you can allow your team to use the saved payment method in Canva. Visit your Purchase History to see if anyone on your team bought paid elements or placed Canva Print orders. If you need to, manage your team’s purchase settings.

Someone new may have been invited and joined your team

We remind team owners and admins to review their team three days before the next bill. Check if you have new team members and if someone doesn't need to remain on the team, you can remove them.
