Why does Canva notify users when I verify a domain?

When you verify a domain, the Canva accounts that have signed up using that domain are claimed by your organization. As part of this process the claimed users are informed what this means for their account. This is important because once a user’s account becomes affiliated, it falls under the organization’s control.

Users will receive an email titled "Your organization has claimed the email domain you’re using." This email gives them 30 days to switch from their work email to a personal one if they’re using Canva for non-work purposes. They’ll also see a banner in their Canva account with the same information.

Note: This notification is sent to everyone using the verified domain, including members who are already part of your Enterprise team.  Members who use Canva for personal or non-work purposes can choose to change their work email to a personal one by following the instructions in the email. This may result in a personal email address appearing on your team.

If your users have questions about this change, you can share the help article, Affiliated and managed accounts: What you need to know for more details.

What’s in the email?

Below is an example of the email users receive when their account is set to become affiliated with their organization. Please note that Canva may update this content at any time:

Your account will be affiliated with [ACME] soon

Hi [User],

An admin from [ACME] has claimed the email domain linked to your Canva account, which means it will become affiliated with your organization.

What do you need to do?

If you take no action, your account will become affiliated with your organization on March 20, 2025 (GMT).

If you use Canva for personal or non-work purposes, update your email to a non-work address before March 20, 2025 (GMT).

What happens when your account is affiliated with [ACME]?

Once your account is affiliated, an admin from [ACME]:

  • Can control how you use Canva.
  • Will not have access to your existing content unless it was created in or shared with a team that they manage.

Note: [ACME] will be customized with your organization’s name.

Can I stop Canva from sending these notifications?

No. To comply with our Terms of Use and privacy regulations, Canva must notify users about changes affecting their accounts.

Can my organization customize the content?
