Print designs in the correct orientation

Before placing an order, it’s important that the elements in your artwork are properly positioned to ensure that the whole design will be in the correct page orientation when ordering prints in Canva.

When printing two-sided documents (i.e., business cards, tags, flyers, etc.), the printer assumes that the design is in landscape orientation and the paper is then flipped horizontally when printing. This becomes an issue especially when a portrait design is made on a landscape template and vice versa. 

For an optimal printing experience, use a template suited to the orientation of your design.

When working on designs with mirrored layouts (such as those commonly found in yard signs), ensure that the backside is flipped horizontally compared to the front side. This ensures that elements like arrows point in the intended direction on both sides.

Here are the correct orientations of folded cards for portrait and landscape folded cards. You may refer to the mock-up shown after choosing the inside and outside pages to view how the design would look once printed.

When designing landscape folded cards, the panel for the back cover needs to be inverted to "stand up" when the material is folded.

If you’ve used a template with an orientation opposite to your design, follow these workarounds:

Option 1: Resize your design to the correct orientation or layout of the design type you’re working on.

Option 2: Flip and rotate the elements on the page. Make sure that the page to be printed as the backside is facing opposite the first page.
