Send Canva Email via email platforms

Once your email design is tested and exported, you're ready to send it out. This article covers how to upload and send your Canva Email with platforms like Gmail, Mailchimp, and other Email Service Providers (ESPs).

ESP vs. Email Inbox Provider: What’s the difference?

Follow the general steps below to upload your Canva-designed email.

  • Once uploaded as HTML, most ESPs will not allow drag-and-drop editing.
    • Make all design changes in Canva before exporting it.
  • Canva does not yet support ESP-specific merge tags.
    • These need to be applied within your ESP after upload.
  • Canva does not currently support unsubscribe links or merge tags. Any unsubscribe link you see in Canva is placeholder text only.
    • Ensure your ESP automatically inserts the required unsubscribe link, or add the link in your ESP before sending. This is legally required under email compliance regulations (e.g. CAN-SPAM, GDPR).

Import your Canva Email into your ESP

Download your email design from Canva as a ZIP file (HTML and images), then upload it into a compatible Email Service Provider (ESP) that supports custom HTML imports.

  1. Log in to your email platform and create a new campaign or new email.
  2. Look for an option such as Import HTML, Code Your Own, or Custom HTML.
  3. Upload the HTML file from your Canva download.
  4. Upload the image assets folder (if required by your ESP) so that all images display correctly.
  5. Review the imported email in your ESP’s preview mode.
  6. Add required fields such as unsubscribe links and merge tags (e.g. recipient name) in your ESP.
  7. Send a test email to confirm fonts, layout, images, and links render correctly.
  8. Once satisfied, schedule or send your campaign to your audience.

Kudos! Your Canva Email is on its way.

FAQs

What email platforms can I use with Canva Email?

You can use:

  • Email inbox providers such as Gmail, and
  • Email Service Providers (ESPs) that allow HTML import, such as Mailchimp, Hubspot, Brevo, etc.

Can I edit my Canva email in my ESP after importing?

This depends on the ESP:

  • If you import via HTML, most ESPs won’t allow drag-and-drop editing. You’ll need to make changes in Canva before exporting.
  • Some ESPs (like Mailchimp) let you tweak the raw HTML, but this requires coding knowledge.

Why does my email look different across email inbox providers (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail)?

Each email inbox provider interprets HTML slightly differently. To reduce display issues:

  • Use only email-safe fonts.
  • Stick to native email components (e.g., buttons, images, blocks).
  • Send test emails to preview the layout across devices.
