Edit and trim audio tracks in Canva videos and designs
After adding audio tracks to your design, you may edit it as you like. Depending on the design template that you’re using, editing audio tracks will be different. Refer below to learn more.
Edit audio tracks from the timeline
When using video templates, you’ll see a timeline on the video editor. After adding a track to your design, you’ll see it on the timeline like this:
Adjust track volume
- Select the audio track or video you want to adjust the volume of.
- On the toolbar above the editor, select the volume icon.
- Use the slider or textbox to adjust.
- To automatically balance the volume of all audio and video in your design, click on the Balance all button.
Fade audio tracks
- On the timeline, select the audio track to edit it.
- On the toolbar above the editor, click on Fade.
- Use the slider or text box to adjust.
Audio fade on videos
You can now apply audio fade directly to video clips in your design. There is no need to extract the audio first. The same fade in and fade out controls you are used to on audio tracks are now available directly on video elements with sound.
IOS version requirement
Audio fade on videos requires iOS app version 4.126.0 or above. If you're on an older version:
- You won't see the audio fade applied to videos, even if the design was edited on a supported device.
- To use this feature, update your Canva app to the latest version from the App Store.
Audio fade on audio tracks is unaffected. This requirement only applies to audio fade on video clips.
To apply audio fade to a video:
- Select the video on your canvas.
- From the toolbar, select Audio tools.
- Drag the Fade in or Fade out sliders to set the duration.
Trim audio tracks
- On the timeline, click to select the added track to edit it.
- Hover your mouse cursor over it. Trim handles will appear.
- Drag any of the trim handles to adjust.
Clip audio tracks
- On the timeline, click to select the added track to edit it.
- Click the (more icon) at the end of the audio, and select Adjust.
- Drag the audio waves into the colored section of the sound bar. The design will play the part of the track inside this colored section.
Trim or expand an audio track:
- On the timeline, tap the added track you need to trim.
- Hover your mouse cursor over it. Trim handles will appear.
- Drag any of the trim handles to shorten or lengthen the track duration.
Adjust the audio or video duration according to page
How long your design is going to play will depend on the length of videos, GIFs, and stickers added to your design.
For example, if there’s a 11.0s video on your page, that page will play for 11.0s. If the page only has text and images, it will play for five (5) seconds.
Here’s how to adjust this.
- Select the page you want to edit.
- On the toolbar above the editor, select the clock icon. Alternatively, you may also select the Duration button on the bottom corner of the editor.
- Use the slider or textbox to adjust the duration or timing.
You can download your designs as MP4 videos.
Click or tap Preview above the editor to preview your design before downloading.
How can I sync my audio and video?
You can do this automatically by selecting Beat Sync above the editor. See Syncing audio with video for more details.
