Choose the right resource for your lesson

Before opening or generating a resource, consider how students will use it.

Think about:

• The learning goal
• The age or year level of your students
• Whether the activity is for independent, group or whole-class learning
• The type of response students need to produce
• Whether a worksheet, whiteboard, game, presentation or another format is the best fit

Starting with the right format can make the resource easier to adapt and more useful in your lesson.

Adapt a resource for your students

Open the resource in Canva to adjust it for your class.

You can:

• Rewrite instructions
• Add examples or classroom context
• Simplify or extend the task
• Adjust the level of challenge
• Update the visuals
• Add support for different learning needs

You can customize ready-made resources, AI-generated activities, and materials you have already created or uploaded.

Generate an activity with AI

Choose an activity type to explore options you can generate with Canva AI.

For example, selecting Whiteboard shows both ready-made resources and different whiteboard activity formats you can create.

When the activity panel opens, add the available details, such as:

• Curriculum
• Grade
• Subject
• Topic

Use the Make it relevant field to add specific instructions, examples, or classroom context. Add as much classroom context as possible to help generate a more relevant result.

Create a custom interactive with Canva Code

Canva Code can help you create a custom learning experience from a written prompt.

You can start from a suggested idea or describe your own activity in detail.

Include information such as:

• The learning goal
• Student age or year level
• How students should interact with it
• The type of feedback they should receive
• The visual style and level of difficulty

For example:

Create a Grade 7 Chemistry activity where students identify particle diagrams as an element, compound or mixture. Show one question at a time, give instant feedback and finish with a score.

Canva Code interactives can be added to another design or published as a standalone experience. They’re not managed in the same way as standard assigned activities.

Choose how to use the finished resource

Once your resource is ready, choose how it will support your lesson.

Depending on the resource type, you may be able to:

• Present it to the class
• Use it in a Live Learning Session
• Share it with students
• Add it to another Canva design
• Publish an interactive resource
• Use it for independent, group or whole-class learning

The available options may vary depending on the resource type and how Canva Education is set up at your school.
