Bring your story to life with motion path animations

Make your elements zigzag across the screen, speed up, slow down, and move around. Play with animation and create custom motion paths for any element in your project.

Move viewers with dynamic animation

Using our Create an Animation tool, you can create motion path animations for any element in your video, presentation, or social media graphics and using an AI face generator(opens in a new tab or window) is a plus. Simply drag an element to mark its motion path, and it will move along the path you created. You can orient the element to the motion path, too. Using the animation speed slider, speed it up or slow it down for extra drama. Then, choose from an array of movement styles and motion effects to really elevate your animation.

Create a motion path

Launch Canva or pull up the free mobile app. Open an existing project or create a new one from a template.

Select the element you want to animate. Click Animate on the toolbar, then click Create an Animation to make a custom motion path.

Select and drag the element to create its animation path, indicated by purple lines. The motion path can go any direction you like. Control the speed of the animation by moving the element slower or faster. To animate along a straight line, hold down Shift while dragging your object. Stop dragging to complete the animation.

Once you’re done drawing the motion path, a new panel appears where you can adjust the speed your animation and orient the element to its motion path. To finish the animation, choose from different movement styles or add motion effects like Rotate or Pulse.

Canva automatically saves your progress as you go. Once you’ve finalized your project, download your file as a video or animated GIF by selecting Share, then Download.
